The town of Prairie is made up of a combination of local business people, property owners who live in town throughout the week so their children can attend school and other community members. In addition to the school, Prairie boasts a police station and the famous Prairie Hotel.
The Prairie community are highly involved in the school.
The school has an open door policy and welcomes involvement and support from the local community. Community members are regularly invited to visit the school and school newsletters are distributed throughout the community.
Support from the community comes in many forms, including working bees and the volunteering of time and heavy machinery to make improvements at the school.
Some of the school facility projects completed due to volunteers were:
building of a wall for a school mural
painting of structures around the school
building of a new school mail box
building of a new sandpit
general improvement of the school grounds
moving of the school long jump pit
grading and smoothing of the school oval
many, many working bees to clear sheds, sort resources, organise functions and fundraise.
The community has also supported the school by:
volunteering time at the school to read with the students
volunteering of time to help coach the students in athletics
volunteering time at the school to sort and organise the school photos
volunteering time at the school to log books on the new library system
hosting of BBQ's for the students.
We are truly thankful for the support Prairie State School has from its wonderful community.
